Initial Assessment: Basal Ganglia Bleed
by Suhaila Usuludin ~ February 17th, 2008. Filed under: Archived, Fieldwork, Neurorehabilitation. What to look out for:
- Strength and AROM of UL and LL (others: neglect, subluxation, tone of muscles, sensation)
- Strength of truncal muscles (extensors and flexors) -> static and dynamic sitting balance
- If substantis nigra of basal ganglia is affected, we may infer that dopamine level changed too. Hence, we also look out for muscle rigidity, tremor, a slowing of physical movement (bradykinesia) and postural instability. -> symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease
