According to a coursemate, her mother was reading a local Chinese newspaper and it was reported that a study done by a local university here, NUS, showed that Cooking is more effective than Mahjong as a cognitive activity for elderly to maintain their cognitive skills.
Rate of cognitive decline for elderly who still participated in at least one productive activity (not sure if this means work) : 66%
Rate of cognitve decline for elderly who still particpated in at least one physical activity: 22%
Rate of cognitive decline for elderly who still participated in a least one socialisation activity: 15%
I did a Google search on this study but to no available.
