Excuse Me, Are You a Real Estate Agent?

Filed under: Archived, Work Rehabilitation.Refering to an article “Real Estate Scheme Helps Youth to Build Solid Job Foundation” in YouthInk section in The Straits Times on October 8 2007, I find that this programme called Project Youth Regeneration is a beneficial one, especially for those who are capable of performing the job requirements.
This programme trains and enables young people who are at risk or physically disabled to be a real estate agent. According to the article, “they handle telemarketing to source for sellers and buyers, then arrange for viewings and, with an agent-mentor, learn to close deals”.
Several apprentices with physical conditions such as cerebral palsy and hemiparesis have been interviewed and feedbacks from them are positive.
With this programme, it will be a good addition to the repetoire of jobs that the physical disabled can take on. This also means that the society is opening up opportunities for the physically disabled. Hence, occupational therapists working in the community should take note of such opportunities so that our clients will have more choice in choosing their future career line.
In addition, with them handling the property issues, it may just change the views of the public on the disabled. Afterall, it is not DISABLED, but THESE ABLED people.
